Unity vs. Uniformity
After President Biden’s inaugural address, the Left in America began echoing his call for “unity.” That sounds wonderful. Who doesn’t want a unified country where we all get along? However, the phrase “I don’t think that word means what you think it means” comes to mind.
Despite being a diverse tapestry of people and culture, the United States was formed on some core values and principles. In times of difficulty, we have coalesced around those principles to pull in the same direction to defeat an enemy or face a challenge.
Sometimes that direction seems clear. For example, entering World War II became necessary when the attack on Pearl Harbor made staying out of the war unreasonable.
