Green hypocrisy may be coming back to bite House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. While even the most optimistic Republicans don’t expect to actually see her defeated in the November elections (she does after all represent San Francisco, and has amassed a huge campaign war chest), she has probably alienated more than enough voters with her unrelenting push for nationalized healthcare legislation alone to guarantee the defeat of many Democrat House members this fall. A recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey found that 69 percent of Americans polled are opposed to the House and Senate ObamaCare bills. But Pelosi is pushing on undeterred.
??It is her blatant environmental hypocrisy and her exalted sense of royal entitlement, however, that may be the "tipping point" with many voters who are feeling the pain of unemployment and the skyrocketing costs of Big Government. Speaker Pelosi has made fighting climate change a major priority, pushing the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade energy bill through the House of Representatives last year. She has instituted a new "Green the Capitol" program aimed at reducing energy consumption and increasing recycling efforts in and around the congressional offices.

The urgency of combating global warming, said Pelosi, Waxman, and Markey, requires completely overhauling our energy policies and drastically reducing energy usage. The message: Each and every one of us must sacrifice and reduce our carbon footprints. Our royal rulers, naturally, are exempt from the new austerity they are prescribing for all others. Pelosi, Waxman, Markey and a congressional retinue of more than 100 went to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen last December on the taxpayers’ dime. That little junket cost much more than a dime, of course; in fact, the price tag topped a million dollars. But, hey, Pelosi and company were simply playing "green," like the millionaire-billionaire club of jet-setters who came to preach the Global Warming Gospel of personal sacrifice: Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Soros, Prince Charles, Al Gore, David de Rothschild, et al.
"For 15 Democratic and 6 Republican Congressmen, food and rooms for two nights cost $4,406 tax dollars each. That’s $2,200 a day — more than most Americans spend on their monthly mortgage payment," Sharyl Attkisson of CBS News reported on January 25. Including staff, spouses, friends and family members, the congressional delegation included at least 106 people. See the CBS video here.
"Total hotel, meeting rooms and "a couple" of $1,000-a-night hospitality suites topped $400,000," noted Attkisson. "Flights weren’t cheap, either. Fifty-nine House and Senate staff flew commercial during the Copenhagen rush. They paid government rates — $5-10,000 each — totaling $408,064. Add three military jets — $168,351 just for flight time — and the bill tops $1.1 million dollars — not including all the Obama administration officials who attended: well over 60." ??This is standard Pelosi modus operandi. According to the public interest group Judicial Watch, documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act show that the Speaker’s military travel cost the United States Air Force $2,100,744.59 over a two-year period — $101,429.14 of which was for in-flight expenses, including food and alcohol. The following are highlights from the recent release of about 2,000 documents:
Speaker Pelosi used Air Force aircraft to travel back to her district at an average cost of $28,210.51 per flight. The average cost of an international CODEL is $228,563.33. Of the 103 Pelosi-led congressional delegations (CODEL), 31 trips included members of the House Speaker’s family.
"Speaker Pelosi has a history of wasting taxpayer funds with her boorish demands for military travel. And these documents suggest the Speaker’s congressional delegations are more about partying than anything else," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
CNN’s Cafferty: "What a horrible woman."
The Pelosi luxury junket so visibly disgusted CNN commentator Jack Cafferty that he remarked of Speaker Pelosi: "What a horrible woman she is."

The formerly pro-Obama Cafferty condemned Pelosi and Obama for breaking their promises to have open and transparent government.

That is a small sample of the building backlash to the Washington pols — of both parties. Although much of the public anger is now focused on the top Democrats who control the government — Obama, Pelosi, and Reid — Republicans, especially RINOs (Republican In Name Only) will not be the automatic beneficiaries. Many voters seem to be getting the message that replacing Big Government Democrats with Big Government Republicans is not the answer.
