Exercising the Right
An Ounce of Prevention
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department issued a press release regarding a deadly shooting that occurred on July 8. The press release recounted the facts currently known to the police.
The incident was captured on surveillance video from a Corner Mart in Nashville. The recording showed a suspect, who was later identified as 25-year-old DeCarlos Groves, enter the store and pulled a handgun on the clerk working behind the counter. Groves then hopped over the counter onto the clerk to overwhelm him. Thankfully the clerk was also armed, and he pulled a pistol out of his shirt pocket during the attack and shot Groves. Groves still tried to fight with the clerk, who fired multiple additional shots at Groves, who soon collapsed to the floor.
Authorities were called to the scene, and Groves was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing, but thanks to the video evidence, it appears to be an open-and-shut case of justified self-defense.
