The sitting president of the United States is cloistered in many ways, by necessity for security reasons and with the enormous responsibilities that go with the job, which can lead a president to be out of touch with issues affecting real people. President Joe Biden has now taken obtuseness to frightening levels with his beliefs about climate change.
Way back in February 1992, the first President Bush visited a grocers’ convention in Florida and observed a barcode price scanner, which had become widespread by this time. This nifty machine made obsolete the old cash register upon which the checkout employee had to type in the price of each grocery item.
The major news media — led by The New York Times — and Bush’s political opponents pounced. “Bush Encounters the Supermarket, Amazed,” the Times front-page headline said. Bush was painted as out of touch with ordinary Americans, who were experiencing a slow-growth economy at the time.
Thirty-one years later, President Biden’s spokesman just reaffirmed his obsession that climate change is the greatest threat to mankind, while terrorism and war are raging or threatening in multiple hot-spots overseas and Americans are enduring inflation (especially in food and energy prices), urban crime waves, and mass drug overdoses.
Last month, during his visit to Vietnam, President Biden was at his most bombastic: “The only existential threat humanity faces — even more frightening than a nuclear war — is global warming; going above 1.5 degrees in the next ten years.”
Not conflicts overseas, and the very real threat to Americans. Not violence in America’s city streets. Not fentanyl killing 100,000 Americans annually. Not living standards declining.
Tell that to the 1,200 (and counting) Israeli civilians — men, women and children — massacred by the Hamas Palestinian terror group since last weekend. Or the tens of thousands of Ukrainians killed or displaced by Russian invaders in the last 17 months.
This week President Biden’s national security spokesman, John Kirby, attempted to explain such alarmingly out-of-touch thinking by doubling down. Climate change “actually threatens and is capable of wiping out all human life on earth over time,” he said. “That’s just science.”
The reality is, if the average global temperature increases by more than 1.5 degrees in 10 years, which is impossible to predict, much less by 2050, it will not be “wiping out all human life,” nor would it be “more frightening than a nuclear war.” It’s hard to imagine a sitting president of the United States can believe such things, especially when existential threats are playing out or looming larger in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, the Taiwan Strait, and America’s non-existent southern border.
Let us peek at the science of global warming, that supposedly is worse than nuclear war.
Actual science and records show the planet has warmed and cooled for thousands, if not millions, of years. Yes, there has been a slight warming trend since the middle of the 19th century, though the 1930’s — not today — was the warmest decade since the end of what is known as the “Little Ice Age.”
Last August, the Global Climate Intelligence Group (CLINTEL) issued a World Climate Declaration signed by more than 1,800 scientists and professionals that asserted “there is no climate emergency.” The document debunked numerous climate falsehoods by asserting the lack of cause-and-effect for natural disasters, that climate policy relies on inadequate computer models, and that carbon dioxide emissions are not pollutants, but are good for the planet and “essential for all life on Earth,” among other findings.
In September, a new study was published in IOP Science by a group of 20 climate researchers led by Dr. Ronan Connelly of the Center for Environmental Research and Earth Science. This study reaffirmed its findings from 2021 that concluded the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been using skewed temperature data and wrongly attributing global warming as “mostly human caused,” and downplaying natural causes, including solar effects.
Indeed, the sun does affect global climate trends.
Evidently, the IPCC nonetheless disregarded the sun’s impact on global climate. President Biden and his underlings; Pope Francis; and the multitude of politicians, university grant recipients, and sundry virtue-signaling millionaires and billionaires in search of fulfillment also miss this scientific solar reality since they all take their cue from sensationalized IPCC press releases amplified by a credulous media.
Genuine scientific studies combined with nearly four decades of climate predictions gone bust unfortunately have not dissuaded, much less humbled, the climate-change industrial complex. It’s current leader, President Biden, wearing the biggest tin-ear imaginable, instead clings to absurdities that climate change is a bigger threat than terrorism and war, and a multitude of other crises on his watch.
Oh, for the days when a president was impressed with a grocery-store checkout scanner.
