Last week, President Joe Biden joined with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Mexico City for the 10th North American Leaders’ Summit (NALS) to reach an agreement that overrides the U.S. Constitution and advances the long-standing globalist goal of erasing the national sovereignty of those three nations.
According to the statement released from the White House, “The leaders are determined to fortify our region’s security, prosperity, sustainability and inclusiveness through commitments across six pillars: 1) diversity, equity, and inclusion; 2) climate change and the environment; 3) competitiveness; 4) migration and development; 5) health; and 6) regional security.”
“We are not just neighbors and partners,” the statement asserts. “Our people share bonds of family and friendship and value — above all else — freedom, justice, human rights, equality, and democracy. This is the North American DNA.”
The document is a recitation of all the goals of the progressive Left. The statement agreed to by the three political leaders argues that, “Diversity, equity, and inclusion is foundational to the strength, vibrancy, and resilience of our countries. We focus on providing marginalized communities opportunities for their full, equal, and meaningful participation in our democracies and economies. To advance these objectives, President López Obrador, President Biden, and Prime Minister Trudeau reiterated their joint commitment to protect civil rights, promote racial justice, expand protections for LGBTQI+ individuals and deliver more equitable outcomes to all.”
Increased governmental power — at both the national and international level — in the name of combating “climate change” also permeates the document. “To promote buy-in for ambitious cuts to emissions, we will come together to align approaches on estimating the social cost of greenhouse gas emissions.” Of course, nothing at all is said about the cost of their “approaches” to individual liberty and economic prosperity.
They add, “We will move swiftly to accelerate the energy transition by deploying clean energy solutions, increasing the production and adoption of zero-emission vehicles in North America and transitioning to cleaner fuels. In partnership with Indigenous Peoples, we reiterate our pledge to protect biodiversity, to work toward ending deforestation, and doing our part to conserve 30 percent of the world’s land and waters by 2030.”
The Declaration of North America (DNA) also praises the regional trade deal negotiated by the Trump administration (although, of course, he is not mentioned):
We seek to deepen our regional capacity to attract high quality investment, spur innovation, and strengthen the resilience of our economies, recognizing the benefits brought by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement [USMCA]. To boost regional competitiveness, the three countries will seek to forge stronger regional supply chains, as well as promote targeted investment, in key industries of the future such as semiconductors and electric vehicle batteries, which will be critical to advance electric vehicle development and infrastructure. We will convene public-private dialogues and map out supply chains to address common challenges and opportunities….
We will also consider trilateral approaches to promote sustainable, inclusive jobs and develop the workforce to meet our climate commitments.
Opening borders to more migrants is another goal of the agreement. The parties promise to work together “to advance labor mobility in North America, particularly regarding regular pathways.”
While many Americans are quite concerned about the unprecedented surge of illegal immigrants into our country, the DNA statement clearly indicates that Biden, Trudeau, and Obrador view this overwhelming increase as a positive:
Since June, Mexico, the United States and Canada have collectively welcomed record numbers of migrants and refugees from the Western Hemisphere under new and expanded labor and humanitarian programs. Today, we affirm our joint commitment to safe, orderly, and humane migration [by] assisting host communities and promoting migrant and refugee integration; providing protection to refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable migrants; strengthening asylum capacity in the region; expanding and promoting regular pathways for migration and protection; addressing the root causes and impacts of irregular migration and forced displacement; and collaborating to counter xenophobia and discrimination against migrants and refugees.
Biden’s agreement to this “DNA” statement makes it clear that the immigration surge into the United States is exactly what he wants to accomplish. This fits well with the eventual goal of erasing the national borders of the three nations, at least as anything more significant than administrative units.
The three North American political leaders also addressed the recent Covid-19 pandemic, viewing it as yet another way of promoting regional government. “As we emerge from the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, we also recognize that resilient health systems, including a strong health workforce, are the foundation upon which effective pandemic preparedness and response will be built. We will continue efforts to build stronger and more resilient health systems that meet the broad range of health needs in our countries.”
Interestingly, the DNA also promises to “focus on strategies to bolster our shared continental security against domestic, regional, and global threats,” but does not define just who is in mind concerning “domestic” threats. But the agreement does mention “trafficking” in firearms.
The statement concludes with a commitment to a “shared vision for a more equitable, just, inclusive, resilient, secure, and prosperous North America.” What will lead to a more prosperous North America is if all three nations adopted policies respecting the free enterprise system, but the DNA says nothing about that.
Not surprisingly, President Biden is ignoring the requirement of the U.S. Constitution that he submit any agreements of this type to the United States Senate for ratification. The Framers of the Constitution were quite explicit: No agreement made by a president has any legal status in the United States unless it follows the provisions of the Constitution, like any other law, and is approved by a two-thirds vote of the Senate.
As one reads over this statement, it is very clear that Biden intends to bind American citizens to an agreement that will fundamentally alter their daily lives. What is additionally disappointing is that, at least so far, we have heard nothing from the Senate protesting that Biden is infringing on the powers delegated to that body.
The parts of the agreement addressing “equity” and “equitable” are antithetical to the founding principles of our country. Equality under the law and equality of opportunity are goals that have been recognized since the nation’s founding. But “equity” refers to equal outcomes, a Marxist concept embodied in this agreement.
A world government founded on socialist principles was an idea promoted by Karl Marx and his fellow communists. In the 19th century, there was an international movement to centralize the governments of the world’s nations. We saw this in Italy, with the Young Italy movement, and we saw this in Germany, which united the historically independent German states. And, of course, we saw it in the United States itself, as the federal government took over more and more duties and powers that the Constitution had left to the states. Marx approved of this, and many Marxists, after failing to overthrow the governments of Europe in 1848, fled to the United States, where they supported the movement to a more-centralized federal government.
As part of this move to a world government, these more-centralized national governments are now joining with neighboring national governments to form regional governments. This is what this DNA is all about, as can be seen by the goals expressed in the document. This is what has happened in Europe, with the creation of the European Union (EU).
For all his talk of “democracy,” it is very clear that Biden has no intention of submitting his left-wing goals to the political process, to determine the wishes of the American people. The intent is to impose these goals — which will stifle our economy and lead to virtual serfdom of the American people — from above.
Hopefully, Americans will wake up and reject this so-called DNA that threatens the survival of the United States as a sovereign nation.
