Though the World Health Organization reports a little more than 35 million confirmed Chinese Virus cases across the globe and more than one million deaths, a top WHO official said yesterday that as much as 10 percent of the world’s population has been infected.
That would mean 760 million people have contracted the Asiatic pathogen.
If true, the death rate from the virus could be far below one percent, which means the virus is much less deadly than the leftist media have said it is.
760M Cases?
The latest on the Chinese Virus came during a special meeting of WHO’s executive board.
Dr. Michael Ryan said “the vast majority of the world remains at risk” but that “many deaths have been averted and many more lives can be protected,” ABC News reported.

But beyond that was the shocking revelation that WHO’s figure of those who tested positive for the virus is far below the number who actually have it, ABC reported:
Ryan said southeast Asia faced a surge in cases, Europe and the eastern Mediterranean were seeing an increase, while the situations in Africa and the Western Pacific were “rather more positive.” Overall, though, he said the world was “heading into a difficult period.”
“The disease continues to spread. It is on the rise in many parts of the world,” Ryan told attendees from governments who make up the executive board and provide much of the WHO’s funding. “Our current best estimates tell us that about 10 percent of the global population may have been infected by this virus.”
The estimate — which would amount to more than 760 million people based on a current world population of about 7.6 billion — far outstrips the number of confirmed cases as tallied by both the WHO and Johns Hopkins University, now more than 35 million worldwide. Experts have long said that the number of confirmed cases greatly undershoots the true figure.
A WHO spokeswoman said the estimate came from “an average of antibody studies conducted around the world,” ABC reported, and that the virus will keep spreading “if we don’t take action to stop it.”
In fact, most countries, including the United States, did take action to stop it. But the virus continued spreading.
Death Rate Unclear
WHO’s virus dashboard now shows 35,274,993 confirmed cases and 1,038,534 deaths, which would mean the virus killed 2.9 percent of those who contracted it.
That figure is likely much lower, because not everyone who contracts the virus will be tested.
Yet if Ryan’s figure of 760 million cases is correct, then the death rate would be 0.136 percent using the figure for confirmed deaths. Using the rate of deaths from the WHO dashboard would mean more than 20 million have died from the virus.
Tweeted former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson, who tracks the virus data, “Umm what? The @who now estimates that 750,000,000 people have gotten the ro?”
Berenson tweets frequently about the virus to say it isn’t as deadly as the panic-stricken media would have everyone believe.
“Which, at 1 million death, would put the death rate at 1 in 750 (even with overcounting, etc) — or 0.13%.” he continued. “That’s the lowest estimate I’ve ever seen. Say it with me: IT’S THE FLU.”
The Latest Mortality Figures
The latest mortality figures from the Centers for Disease Control show that nothing has changed with respect to those most at risk for dying if they contract the virus.
Of the 194,091 COVID-involved deaths, 188,193, or 97 percent, were 45 years and older. And 79 percent, or 153,032, were 65 years and older.
In other words, most of those who die with the virus, being older, generally have one or more comorbidities such as hypertension, cardiovascular or kidney disease, or serious lung disease.
Data from New York state, as The New American has reported, show that 90 percent of those who die with the virus have one or more comorbidities, which raises the obvious question of whether they would survive a serious case of garden-variety flu or pneumonia, let alone a novel virus.
U.S. intelligence officials have said the virus escaped from a poorly-run lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Dr. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases subsidized controversial genetic experiments at the institute.
