War Watch: US Navy Destroyer Shoots Down Drone

According to two U.S. officials who spoke to the Reuters news service on Wednesday, the U.S. Navy destroyer Thomas Hudner shot down a drone launched from Yemen while operating in the Red Sea.

This is the second time that a U.S. Navy warship has intercepted drones from Yemen. In October, the Navy shot down four cruise missiles and 15 drones said to have been launched by the Houthi movement.

This time, the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer engaged the drone in the early morning hours, local time.

Officials speaking to Reuters “did not say whether the drone was armed or how close it came to the ship before being shot down,” the news service reported.
