Report: Oath Keepers Infiltrating Department of Homeland Security

Leaked documents purport to show that members of the Oath Keepers are current and former agents of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), according to a report published by the Project on Government Oversight (POGO).

This potential bombshell comes just weeks after the founder of Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, was found guilty of participating in a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 elections.

The report claims that a leak of the Oath Keepers’ membership lists revealed that “potentially hundreds” of Oath Keepers have infiltrated DHS, POGO reported on Monday.

Here’s the spin that the Project on Government Oversight put on this purported “infiltration:”

“One active law enforcement official joining a militia group is one too many,” Mike German, a former undercover FBI agent who has infiltrated white supremacist and far-right extremist groups, told POGO. “This probably represents the tip of the iceberg as far as federal law enforcement officers that have been involved in or supported the activities of far-right, militant groups like the Oath Keepers.”

Additionally:

“Extremism within our government is always alarming, but even more so in a Department with a law enforcement and national security nexus like DHS,” said Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MS), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, in an emailed statement.

Now, labels such as “militia group” and “far-right, militant” are always subjective, and are stuck to people typically opposing the established order.

That was the case at the time of the American War for Independence. British politicians, bureaucrats, and redcoats regularly described our patriot forefathers as “real enemies to society,” “open and avowed rebels,” “dangerous and ill-designing,” and “wicked and desperate Persons.”

In other words, if the tyrant calls you a rebel and an extremist, then you’re probably a patriot.

That said, there is a question as to why members of a group such as Oath Keepers — committed, they assert, to the Constitution — would join a most unconstitutional organization such as the DHS.

The reasons that might compel a patriot to infiltrate the Department of Homeland Security are inscrutable. Names on a list are sterile and do nothing to reveal any rationale for the apparent association any Oath Keeper would have with the very government that has labeled the group extremists and seditious.

What is easy to know, however, is that DHS has a rap sheet of crimes against the Constitution. For years I have chronicled this agency’s attacks on liberty, property, and the Constitution that was written to protect those very things.

For example, recently I revealed how DHS is “policing posts on social media to make sure that anyone contradicting the official version of events in the world can be contained or controlled.”

For many years, I have reported on the DHS policy of bribing local police and sheriff’s offices with billions in federal dollars in exchange for managerial control, converting local law enforcement into nothing more than outposts of the central government. This policy is carried out through the establishment of Fusion Centers throughout the country.

Additionally, technology developed by DHS will soon be deployed at police stations across the country, enabling local law enforcement to identify and track people “deemed suspicious” and to permanently store their DNA in databases of potential criminals.

Viewed in a neutral light, the actions of DHS seem much more seditious than anything of which the Oath Keepers have been accused.

Remarkably, Stewart Rhodes tacitly admitted that members of the organization he fronts are purposefully placing themselves within the ranks of DHS.

“It’s men like this on the inside who can and do provide information to expose what’s going on,” he admitted in 2009.

That’s quite the commitment to surreptitiously sabotaging one of the federal government’s most menacing agencies.

Rather than infiltrating the Department of Homeland Security or any other federal alphabet agency, patriots should work to identify and elect state representatives, senators, and governors who will follow the advice given by James Madison in The Federalist, No. 46 and “refuse to cooperate with officers of the union” whenever those federal officers tyrannically exercise powers not granted to them by the Constitution.
