Donald Trump has not been president since January 20, when Sleepy Joe Biden moved into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Yet Trump Derangement Syndrome is still a pandemic, and a vaccine to prevent it is unavailable.

The latest from the kook Left and Trump haters is that he is behind the troubles that have befallen New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The women who have surfaced to tell stories about Cuomo’s sex harassment and possible assaults are part of a “hit job” to get rid of him, either by his resignation or impeachment, the conspiracy theory goes. Or, the theorists believe, Cuomo will be crippled and lose in 2022.

But Trump has good reason to hatch the nefarious plan: A GOP governor would replace Cuomo and pardon Trump if he is convicted of a tax crime in New York.

Time to Resign

The conspiracy theory is up and running in leftist Twitter now that top Democrats, including New York’s Democrat Senate leader, says Cuomo must resign. Five women have accused the man now called Handsy Andy of sex harassment:

Boyland, Ruch, and Liss say Cuomo kissed them — uninvited.

“We have allegations about sexual harassment, a toxic work environment, the loss of credibility surrounding the Covid-19 nursing home data and questions about the construction of a major infrastructure project,” Senate chieftain Andrea Stewart-Cousins said on Sunday:

New York is still in the midst of this pandemic and is still facing the societal, health and economic impacts of it. We need to govern without daily distraction. For the good of the state Governor Cuomo must resign.

Boylan — a top Democrat herself and candidate for Manhattan Borough president — agrees, of course, as does Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie thinks likewise:

The allegations … have been deeply disturbing, and have no place whatsoever in government, the workplace or anywhere else. I too share the sentiment of Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins…. I think it’s time for the governor to seriously consider whether he can effectively meet the needs of the people of New York.

It’s Trump!

Despite the credible allegations and what top Democrats say, conspiracy theorists are running wild on Twitter.

“If Cuomo were to resign would this alleviate whatever trauma these women seem to be experiencing?” one Trump hater wrote:

C’mon! This is a Trump instigated hit-job. He wants a republican governor to grant him clemency. The SDNY is on the tail of Trump & he knows it.

“This is a political hit job. I’m so cynical now, that was the first thing I thought of when the first accusation arose,” tweeted another. “I feel bad about the young women but the GOP is behind this. Am I alone in thinking this?”

No, she isn’t:

Nope. You are not the only one. It’s too convenient for everything that is going on. With Gov. Cuomo out a possible Republican Gov. could be elected to pardon #45. My wife & I agree on this.

“I think so too,” came another daffy tweet. “They want a Republican Governor.”

Trump even has “two friends” ready to run, and defeat Cuomo in 2022. After that, they’ll pardon the former president:

Michael Cohen said last week that Trump has 2 friends who will be running for NY governor against Cuomo. And that Trump wants a friend to win so as governor, he could pardon Trump & family of NY charged crimes. Trump & donors pushed the Cuomo stories to media

The conspiracy theory has multiple problems:

  • The leftist, hate-Trump media, and the women who have accused Cuomo and obviously despise Trump, would have had to cooperate with him. It is unlikely they were unwitting co-conspirators.
  • Top Democrats would have to be stupid enough, or see possible personal gain, to go along with it. Given their hatred of Trump, that is unlikely.
  • Boylan tweeted about Cuomo in December, long before she detailed her experiences at Medium.com.
  • A Republican will not succeed Cuomo if he resigns or is impeached. His successor, as state law provides, will be Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul.
  • Trump’s tax troubles regardless, a Republican will run and might win either against Cuomo or Hochul in 2022.

As for Cuomo, he says he won’t quit. That leaves impeachment as the Democrats’ only alternative to get rid of him.
