U.S. Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), a RINO (Republican in Name Only) who is no longer recognized as a member of the GOP by the Wyoming Republican Party, took to the compliant media’s airwaves over the weekend to again attack former President Donald Trump for his purported role in the violence that occurred at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. On ABC’s This Week, Cheney expanded on the false narrative that the former president was the key instigator of the so-called “insurrection” that occurred that day.
Her revelation, designed to be a startling and riveting, fizzled: “We are learning much more about what former President Trump was doing while the violent attack was underway … he was sitting in the dining room next to the Oval Office watching the attack on television.”
She then dropped the big bomb: “Any man who would watch television as police officers were being beaten, as his supporters were invading the Capitol of the United States, is clearly unfit for future office … clearly can never be anywhere near the Oval Office ever again.”
Cheney headed over to be interviewed at CBS’s Face the Nation where she touted her conservative creds before launching into another attack on the former president:
I am a conservative Republican…. We can either be loyal to Donald Trump or we can be loyal to the Constitution, but we cannot be both….
Far too many Republicans … [are] trying to obstruct the activities of this committee. But we won’t be deterred. At the end of the day, the facts matter, and the truth matters.
Unfortunately for Cheney, facts do matter and the public has learned enough about the so-called “insurrection” to put the matter out of mind.
Even the left-liberal The Atlantic has all but given up that Cheney’s committee will uncover anything of substance to pin on Trump. If they had anything, they would have long before now:
Though a steady stream of rioters [is] pleading guilty to relatively minor offenses, the Justice Department has yet to announce any breakthroughs in untangling the planning of the attack or unveil any blockbuster charges such as insurrection or “seditious conspiracy.” In Congress, the select committee [of which Cheney is vice-chair] has yet to convene any public hearings or announce new discoveries…. The most important events in January 6 [2021] were broadcast and livestreamed as they unfolded, and it’s difficult to imagine what additional facts the committee might uncover that would change the minds of those who watched it at the time.
And what facts the committee has uncovered have turned out to be manufactured, or irrelevant. On the committee is Adam Schiff — the faker of Donald Trump, Jr.’s emails, the fabricator of the transcript of a 2019 phone call between Trump and the president of Ukraine, the one who lied about his interactions with a so-called whistleblower behind the House’s first impeachment — who was just caught again.
Schiff misrepresented the substance of a text message that former Trump national security advisor Joseph Schmitz sent to Trump’s then-chief of staff Mark Meadows, and was called out over the fabrication by Sean Davis, writing for The Federalist:
Not only did Schiff lie about the substance of the text message and its source, he even doctored the message and graphic that he displayed on screen during his statement … he chopped up the text and created a false graphic representing the actual contents of the text message.
This was preceded by Cheney’s committee’s efforts to pin the “insurrection” on Trump by revealing other text messages from various sources to Trump to stop the “insurrection.” But, as Brad Slager noted at Townhall:
These texts completely blow apart the main accusation that the riot on the Capitol was a coordinated attack. Every message they underscore here is calling for action to be taken to stop it, and Trump’s advisor asserts that he was actively doing so in his responses.
If Cheney, the commission, and the press had proof of active involvement, the texts would be applauding the president and saying things like, “It’s working!”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave away the game when she refused to name Republicans Jim Banks of Indiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio to her “non-partisan” committee, saying that there was “concern about statements made and actions taken by” them concerning the January 6 incident. Why, for Heaven’s sake, they might be biased in favor of the president!
For those few, aside from the anti-Trump media, still interested in the event that took place a year ago, they must be asking: if there was an insurrection, why isn’t anyone being charged with insurrection?
But Cheney remains confident that somehow, somewhere, there lurks proof that Trump was behind it all. She gushed to “This Week” anchor George Stephanopoulos:
The committee gives me hope.
It is very much one that brings together a group of us who have very different policy views, but who come together when the issues have to do with the defense of the Constitution.
So, that gives me hope.
As Rudy Guliani said at the 2008 Republican Party’s convention, in response to Obama’s campaign slogan “Hope and Change” — “change” is not a destination, just as “hope” is not a strategy.
