According to the Nullify Now! tour website, the Founding Fathers presented a constitutionally sound case for nullification. In 1798, Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers…a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy.”
More than 10 speakers will be making the same case in Los Angeles on Saturday, addressing the following items, according to the Nullify Now! website:
- What IS nullification?Clue – it’s not what the pundits of the politicians have been telling you.
- How nullification has been used in defense of free speech, as resistance to slavery and conscription, and how it’s being used in modern times, right here in California
- How we can address the TSA, foreign policy, marijuana, water rights, and other issues through state-based activity
- How we can roll back unconstitutional expansions of federal power through nullification
- Why the Founding Fathers believed that nullification was the “moderate middle ground”
- Why the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution gives the states the power to nullify unconstitutional laws
- Why states – not the Supreme Court – should arbitrate disputes between the states and the federal government over the constitutionality of the federal government’s actions.
One of the speakers will be Thomas E. Woods, author of Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21stCentury. Woods, a prominent advocate of the nullification movement, has said of nullification:
Nullification begins with the axiomatic point that a federal law that violates the Constitution is no law at all. It is void and of no effect. If a law is unconstitutional and therefore void and of no effect, it is up to the states, the parties to the U.S. Constitution, to declare it so and thus refuse to enforce it…Nullification provides a shield between the people of a state and an unconstitutional law from the federal government.
In addition to Woods, Art Thompson of the John Birch Society will be presenting on how to effectively turn grassroots passion into activism. Likewise, Anthony Gregory will be addressing how nullification can address the war on drugs as well as the Patriot Act, while Scott Horton will be tackling foreign policy.
Other reputable speakers include Jason Rink, Bryce Shonka, Nick Hankoff, Eddie Allen, John Denis, Michael Boldin, and Stewart Rhodes.
Attendees will also be regaled with musical performances by local artists Johnny Leroy, Vayden, Lugenbuhl, My Own Holiday, Starveya, as well as Jordan Page-a musician who is seeking “to mobilize a new generation to stand up for their country and the rights of the individual.”
