Hypocritical D.C. Officials Declare “Crisis” Over Thousands of Illegals Bused to Their City
Muriel Bowser

On Thursday, the same day that Washington, D.C., Council Member Brianne Nadeau announced that her city was becoming a “border town,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a public emergency over several thousand illegal aliens arriving in the nation’s capital from the southern border — an emergency that President Biden and the Pentagon have ignored by twice rejecting the mayor’s request to activate the National Guard to provide assistance.

Blaming Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and Texas Governor Greg Abbott for creating this “crisis,” in a press conference Nadeau stated, “We’ve learned from border towns like El Paso and Brownsville [Texas] and in many ways the governors of Texas and Arizona, have turned us [Washington, D.C.] into a border town…. We don’t know how long this will take to resolve. We don’t know how long they will continue busing.”

In her declaration, Mayor Bowser added that the illegals “were tricked or lied to” by officials in Arizona and Texas. “Our experience is that the vast majority of people move on to destinations outside of D.C.,” she added. “We know from media reports that the governors of Texas and Arizona have sent 9,400 on buses destined for the District of Columbia. We know they are targeting Washington, D.C., not because of any particular ties that the people boarding the buses have to Washington, D.C., but they want to make a point to the federal government.”

For several months now both Arizona Governor Ducey and Texas Governor Abbott have been involved in an ongoing feud with the mayors of D.C. and New York over the busing of illegals there. The governors’ actions are definitely making a point to these sanctuary cities on the true “crisis” of illegal crossings at the border.

Last month, Governor Abbott’s office reported that “Gov. Abbott joined America’s Newsroom on Fox News to spotlight New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ hypocrisy in complaining about bused migrants from Texas arriving in his sanctuary city. After the Governor invited Mayor Adams and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to the border to see the crisis firsthand, the mayors have not accepted the invitation and refuse to acknowledge the magnitude of the problem.”

“This is not a Texas problem; this is an American problem caused by the president,” said Governor Abbott. “We need more Americans to call on the president to uphold his oath of office and enforce the immigration laws of the United States.”

Around 8,000 or so illegal aliens have been bused from Texas to D.C. over the last five months. This is only a small percentage of the minimum of 5,000 people a day that are being apprehended in five Border Patrol sectors in Texas alone. D.C., New York, and recently Chicago have received busloads of illegals, as all of those cities are sanctuary cities that discourage local law enforcement from reporting the immigration status of an individual unless it affects the investigation of a serious crime. Some of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. are sanctuary cities, according to data compiled by the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI).

Texas Gov. Abbott argues that the “crisis” claimed by council member Nadeau was created by President Joe Biden and “demands immediate and decisive federal action.” He’s asked D.C. Mayor Bowser to “call on President Biden to stop dismissing the crisis and honor his duty of preserving America’s national security.”

In what can only be defined as pure hypocrisy, with Nadeau stating the capital was turning into a “border town,” she was the one who wrote the city’s sanctuary policy instructing officials not to comply with federal immigration laws a few years ago.

In 2019, Nadeau tweeted, “The District is a sanctuary city, which means our law enforcement does not cooperate with ICE. As Councilmember, I have called for an abolition of ICE and wrote DC’s law to establish a permanent immigrant legal services fund.”

Mayor Bowser’s commitment to her city’s sanctuary status while also declaring an emergency is another example of ultimate hypocrisy. Jonathan Hullihan, a Navy JAG officer and national security law analyst, told The Center Square, “As a sanctuary city, Washington, D.C., has purposefully refused to cooperate with federal law enforcement on detainers and removal processes.”

Bowser’s “public emergency” is “a direct result of Gov. Greg Abbott’s efforts to bring awareness to the border crisis and the failure of the Biden Administration to protect American sovereignty,” Hullihan added.

It is this type of total disregard for immigration laws by President Biden and the so-called sanctuary cities throughout the nation that only helps feed illegal immigrants’ desire to cross our borders. And it seems that Abbott’s busing of illegals to sanctuary cities is hitting a nerve and may be working.

Last week, Gov. Abbott sent the first busload of illegals to Chicago, stating, “President Biden’s inaction at our southern border continues putting the lives of Texans — and Americans — at risk and is overwhelming our communities…. [Chicago] Mayor [Lori] Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them.”

It probably won’t be long before Mayor Lightfoot declares a “crisis” as well, joining her fellow hypocritical comrades in the nationwide “border towns” they and President Biden have created. Ultimately it will be up to President Biden to solve the crisis by enforcing our country’s immigration laws to protect our nation’s borders.
