Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stated Sunday morning that the Biden administration’s immigration policies are supporting the record surge of illegal aliens entering the nation by “aiding and abetting” cartel smugglers and human traffickers.
According to a letter obtained by CBS News that was sent to Texas Governor Greg Abbott last week, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is threatening to sue Texas if the state enforces a new immigration law that would allow state officials to arrest and detain anyone who enters the country illegally.
Paxton defended the new law and the threat of the lawsuit in a Fox News interview, claiming, “we merely want to protect our own citizens from the crime and the cost of illegal immigration,” noting that it’s really the federal government’s job to do it.
“Instead, we have got the Biden administration, as I said, aiding and abetting the cartels, encouraging the cartels to make billions of dollars and to bring as many people here as possible — as fast as possible and as soon as possible,” Paxton shared with Fox News, adding, “that’s what the Biden administration is doing. They’re not just not doing their job. They’re actually encouraging the opposite.”
The DOJ letter stated that if Texas has not confirmed it will “forbear enforcement” of the immigration law by January 3, the agency will “pursue all appropriate legal remedies to ensure that Texas does not interfere with the functions of the federal government.”
KERA News reported:
An Abbott spokesperson said Thursday that Texas is prepared to fight all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in defense of the law, adding that the governor signed the law “to help stop the tidal wave of illegal entry into Texas.” On X, formerly known as Twitter, Abbott said the Biden administration “not only refuses to enforce current U.S. immigration laws, they now want to stop Texas from enforcing laws against illegal immigration.”
“I’ve never seen such hostility to the rule of law in America,” Abbott wrote. “Biden is destroying America. Texas is trying to save it.”
The new Texas law is scheduled to go into effect on March 5 and will support Texas’ Operation Lone Star in assisting state agencies in securing the border.
“Operation Lone Star continues to fill the dangerous gaps created by the Biden administration’s refusal to secure the border. Every individual who is apprehended or arrested and every ounce of drugs seized would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and the nation due to President Joe Biden’s open border policies,” stated a press release highlighting the state’s border security mission.
Part of Operation Lone Star has been the controversial busing of illegals to sanctuary cities across the nation. Texas has reportedly bused:
- Over 12,500 migrants to Washington, D.C. since April 2022
- Over 33,600 migrants to New York City since August 2022
- Over 28,000 migrants to Chicago since August 2022
- Over 3,400 migrants to Philadelphia since November 2022
- Over 13,800 migrants to Denver since May 18
- Over 1,300 migrants to Los Angeles since June 14
One mayor of the cities receiving the bused aliens from Texas shared with Face the Nation on Sunday how these “immigrants” are affecting his community. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson stated that the arrival of the migrants from Texas is “clearly an international and federal crisis that local governments are being asked to subsidize.” Johnson added, “And this is unsustainable. None of our local economies are positioned to be able to carry on such a mission. And what we have attempted to do is to create structure and some coordination around this humanitarian crisis. And, unfortunately, the governor of Abbott — the governor of Texas, Governor Abbott, is determined to continue to sow seeds of chaos.”
Johnson admitted that the solution to the “chaos” is the need for comprehensive immigration reform. “Comprehensive immigration reform would certainly transform this situation. In fact, it solves this — this crisis. What we have said repeatedly is that we need Congress to act to provide the resources that are needed in order to — to carry out this mission.”
Not only does Congress need to act during this session to solve the border crisis, but President Biden must also end his open-border policies and stop the flow of illegals entering the country.
