Bomberger urged Americans to reconsider aborting a child who is the product of a rape. “Although you may be in this immediate moment of pain and chaos, there is another side of the story,” he stressed. “There’s something beautiful that can rise from the ashes of such a violent act.”
He discussed his happy life in his loving, multiracial adoptive family, with nine other siblings who were also adopted, and his profound gratitude for that life: “I keep thinking about this myth that is put out there by Planned Parenthood — the reason why they profit in the millions — because they destroy beautiful possibilities every single day. Even in cases of rape and incest, choosing life not only blesses the child but many others through the lives they can go on to live.”
In 2009, Bomberger and his wife created the Radiance Foundation, an educational, pro-life organization. According to the website, Ryan “made an unexpected impact on the pro-life movement with the bold TooManyAborted.com billboard/web campaign,” which attracted the attention of the national mainstream media.
As well as focusing on the immorality of abortion, Bomberger also highlights the racism of abortion in America today, noting that five times as many black babies are aborted as other babies. A recent billboard campaign in the Atlanta metropolitan area sponsored by Bomberger carried messages such as “Black Is Beautiful” (showing a newborn black baby), and “The 13th Amendment Freed Us. Abortion Enslaved Us.”
Bomberger, himself an African-American, said the mainstream media called the billboards “racist.” He notes that racism is behind the abortion movement, which has its roots in social Darwinism and the eugenics movement in America spearheaded by Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger.
Bomberger counters the moral philosophy of social Darwinism with the Christian belief that human life is sacred, and that taking the life of a child in the womb violates the will of God. He calls bi-racial adoptions the ultimate act of racial reconciliation. Black leaders such as Dr. Alveda King have endorsed the Radiance Foundation campaigns.
Bomberger, a devout Christian, quotes Psalm 82:3 as his guide: “Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.”
