Another Honor Killing?

Police in Peoria, Arizona, just outside Glendale, are searching for a suspect in the attempted murder of his daughter.

They allege Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, mowed down Noor Faleh Almaleki in a Jeep Grand Cherokee because the 20-year-old is too “westernized.” He also struck another innocent victim, police say.

According to the Easy Valley Tribune, “Detectives from the Peoria Police Violent Crimes Unit, after talking with family and friends, learned Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, of Glendale was the driver, and that he is the father of Noor Faleh Almaleki. Those interviewed also told police he was [angry] with her as she had become too ‘westernized’ and had made threats toward her.”

The vicious attack, very likely an attempted honor killing, is the second one on a Muslim woman in less than a month. On September 29, prosecutors in Sterling Heights, Michigan, charged 22-year-old Mohammed Chowdhury with murdering his wife, Suraia Miah. She was 25. Chowdhury called police and told them intruders had broken into his apartment and killed the woman. But “when police arrived,” one news account says, “they found Chowdhury standing outside his apartment, covered in blood. Inside, his wife lay in a pool of blood, dead from multiple stab wounds.”

Honor killings are growing problem in the West as the immigration of Muslims continues. It is a main concern of supporters of Rifqa Bary, the 17-year-old high-school girl who fled her parents home in Ohio for safe haven in Florida. She believed her father would kill her because she converted to Christianity. After several weeks, two judges ordered her into foster care back in Ohio.
