Report: Video Shows Daunte Wright Wielding Gun Before Attempted Robbery

By R. Cort Kirkwood

A video obtained by Fox News shows Daunte Wright — inadvertently shot to death in April as he tried to flee police — shows him wielding a gun just before he tried to rob a woman.

That robbery led to a warrant for his arrest, which in turn led to the police stop the day Wright was killed.

Wright became the latest cause célèbre for Black Lives Matter when Kimberly Potter of Minnesotas Brooklyn Center Police Department shot him during his attempt to flee.

Aggravated Robbery

Wright “recorded a selfie video of himself playing with a handgun in a woman’s bathroom shortly before he allegedly shoved the weapon in her face and robbed her,” Fox reported:

The 13-second clip … shows Wright aiming the gun at the camera and at his own head, with the sound of running water in the background. Police found it on his phone during their investigation, according to court documents.

Wright and an 18-year-old friend were charged with aggravated robbery in December 2019 after he allegedly pointed the gun at the woman, reached into her clothing, choked her, and demanded she hand over $820 in cash he knew she had tucked into her bra because her rent was due.

Wright was later accused of violating the terms of his release in the robbery case, and that’s why he had a warrant out for his arrest when police pulled him over on April 11.

The Star-Tribune of Minneapolis reported that police pulled Wright over after he missed a court appearance on a gun charge.

Yet the latest from Fox reveals another problem with the leftist mainstream media’s depiction of Wright. He wasnt just a misguided but basically good 20-year-old. “A supplemental police report in the robbery case, also obtained by Fox News, identified Wright as a ‘documented LOUD PACK gang member.’” Fox reported:

The alleged accomplice, Emajay Driver, had gone to high school with the victim and was invited over to the apartment she shared with a roommate the night before at around 10 p.m., according to the police report. He brought Wright, whom the victim had not met previously.

The group drank and smoked marijuana, listening to music and “hanging out” until around 2:30 a.m., when the young women asked Wright and Driver to leave, according to court documents.

They said they couldn’t find a ride, and the victim let them sleep on her floor.

The next morning, her roommate handed over her half of the rent, which the visitors saw her tuck into her bra.

Flashing the money was a mistake. Wright decided that he and his pal should “hit some stains,” Fox reported, which is “slang for robbing people, according to the police report.”

The two tried and failed to rob the woman. Cops arrested them five days later:

Wright later was said to have violated the terms of his release by allegedly waving a handgun in public in Minneapolis.

When police pulled him over in April, they found a warrant for that incident and tried to arrest him.

Civil Lawsuit Against Wright

But like Michael Brown in St. Louis, Missouri and Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Wright refused to surrender. Instead, he fought with police. Potter intended to reach for her taser, but instead pulled her firearm and shot him.

On September 2, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, a pro-Antifa lefitst, amended the original criminal complaint against Potter, second-degree manslaughter, to include a charge of first-degree manslaughter.

Wright is also alleged to have been dangerous, violent criminal. As reported by Fox, his “estate also faces a pair of posthumous civil lawsuits alleging that he shot two other people.” One lawsuit alleges that Wright shot the victim in the head in 2019 and left him in a “vegetative state.” The other victim claims Wright shot him in the leg and stole his car.

As for the robbery, accomplice Driver was convicted of the crime in December. Prosecutors dropped the charges against Wright after Potter killed him.
