For months nonprofit organizations have been assisting illegal aliens as they cross the border with Mexico, giving them temporary food and shelter and in some cases buying them one-way bus tickets to cities such as Denver in an attempt to avoid a humanitarian crisis.
Last month, Denver’s Democratic Mayor Michael Hancock issued an emergency declaration so that the city could free up resources to support the ongoing influx of these bused illegal immigrants. “This influx of migrants, the unanticipated nature of their arrival, and our current space and staffing challenges have put an immense strain on city resources, to the level where they’re on the verge of reaching a breaking point at this time,” Hancock said at a news conference. “What I don’t want to see is a local humanitarian crisis of unsheltered migrants on our hands because of the lack of resources.”
In his emergency declaration, Mayor Hancock noted his frustration with the Biden administration, stating, “We’re aware [of] their desire to come to the United States, and with that awareness, our federal government and Congress have not acted appropriately to address it.”
With a surge of illegals arriving almost daily in Denver, the state capital and a sanctuary city, Colorado’s Governor Jared Polis (D) announced Tuesday in a statement that Colorado has been “working tirelessly to address the influx of migrants,” of which the state says about 70 percent are passing through. He continued:
No one should play politics with the lives of migrants who came here to escape oppression, and in Colorado, we are honoring our values of treating people with dignity and respect. Coloradans would expect nothing less from us to uphold our shared values to assist people fleeing oppression. The stories I’ve heard firsthand from migrants are heartbreaking and we are helping these individuals complete their long and arduous journey.
Feeling frustrated with the lack of support from the federal government, Polis noted that “States and cities cannot continue to bear this burden alone and Congress needs to finally step up — we need an immediate route to work permits, and to finally enact better border security and immigration reform.”
He also announced that the state is “partnering with Denver and nonprofits to provide intake, processing, and transportation coordination to help migrants safely reach their desired final destination.”
To help facilitate safe travel of the illegals to new destination cities, Colorado is working with two nonprofits that are “culturally competent navigators” that have experience working with immigrants, and specifically the Venezuelan community. The state is relying on these nonprofits as “navigators to ensure people are selecting their preferred locations, and once there, can seamlessly connect to family members, friends, and services when they reach their destination.”
One of those destinations is New York City, as The Epoch Times reported:
According to Politico, Polis’ office confirmed Tuesday that Colorado began transporting immigrants to New York City and other destinations weeks ago, yet New York Mayor Eric Adams said in an interview Tuesday that he was only notified of those plans on Jan. 2….
Describing the situation as a national “embarrassment,” Adams contended that both the president and Congress have a responsibility to act.
“I think the president has an obligation to deal with the immediate concerns,” he said. “But when we talk about immigration, it is going to take a combination of the executive and the legislative body. We have to address this.… No city should have to make a decision if they’re going to provide for their citizens — particularly coming out of COVID — or if they’re going to deal with an onslaught of migrants and asylum seekers.”
In what can only be pure hypocrisy, Polis claims his actions are the result of compassion, completely opposite of Democrats’ characterization of Republican governors facing the recent influx of illegals in their states.
As an example, Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently announced that his administration bused more than 16,000 illegals to sanctuary cities in 2022. One of those cities was Washington, D.C., where illegal aliens were dropped off near the residence of “Border Czar” Vice President Kamala Harris on Christmas Eve. The White House reportedly criticized that decision as a “cruel, dangerous, and shameful stunt.”
The Epoch Times shared Gov. Abbott’s response:
“The White House is full of a bunch of hypocrites, led by the Hypocrite-in-Chief who has been flying planeloads of migrants across the country and oftentimes in the cover of night,” noted Renae Eze, an Abbott spokesperson.
“Instead of their hypocritical complaints about Texas providing much-needed relief to our overrun and overwhelmed border communities, President Biden and Border Czar Harris need to step up and do their jobs to secure the border — something they continue failing to do.”
The busing of illegals throughout the country — by nonprofits as well as both Democratic and Republican governors — is fast becoming its own crisis and exacerbating the border crisis, which is far from being resolved. Hopefully, when the current infighting within the new Republican-controlled House and Title 42 get resolved, border and immigration policy will finally get the attention it deserves and the flood of illegals that is destroying our nation’s sovereignty will be stopped.
