In the legendary story of the Trojan Horse, Mycenean Greeks defeated the city of Troy by offering them a wooden horse. Once the “gift” was brought inside the city walls, later in the night Greek soldiers came out of the horse, and opened the gates for other Greeks who poured into the city and conquered it. Today, Americans are being offered electric vehicles (EVs) as a good replacement for gasoline-powered engines on automobiles. It is a modern-day Trojan Horse. We are being suckered into giving up our automobiles, which have provided us with more than a century of increased freedom of movement.
The argument, of course, is that these EVs do not emit CO2 as do cars powered by internal-combustion engines. And, as the argument goes, such emissions cause global warming — or global climate change. Every weather event, whether it is increased or decreased temperature is taken to “prove” the theory. Droughts are a result of the burning of fossil fuels — coal and oil — but so are torrential rains. You see, it is all “human activity,” which means the Industrial Revolution, which did more to improve life on earth than anything these globalists have done.
In the abstract, electric cars would be great, but they are both impractical and dangerous.
The batteries needed to power EVs are highly expensive. And they often explode, resulting in dangerous fires. In New York City alone, there were more than 200 such fires from EV batteries. Fire caused by an EV battery killed four people in an e-bike shop in the Big Apple. These fires are now the most common cause of fatal fires in New York City. And not just in New York, but all over the country.
Despite these dangers, government bullies insist that we phase out the internal-combustion engine. President Joe Biden is asking for a government mandate that just about all new cars sold in America be powered by batteries, not by gasoline, by 2032. Biden, former Vice President Al Gore, former Senator John Kerry (now Biden’s “climate czar”) and other climate fanatics apparently are not concerned about the deaths we will have with EVs. (Of course, “czars” are not supposed to exist in a constitutional republic.)
In California, Governor Gavin Newsom is claiming that a recent “rule” promulgated by the California Air Resources Board will require all new car sales in his state be zero-emission vehicles by 2035. A report from the Associated Press has noted that this would require at least 15 times more vehicle charging stations statewide.
Exactly how all of this electricity to power all these additional EVs will be generated is a mystery. California can barely keep up with its electricity needs right now. If oil, coal, or natural gas is to be phased out, then all that electricity for charging these vehicles will have to come from other ways of generating electricity — such as hydroelectric, wind, and solar.
That is a technological impossibility.
Not only do these people hate “fossil fuels,” they hate nuclear power, too. They hate anything that works.
In other words, once we have — by government fiat from “czars” such as Newsom and Kerry — all EVs, we will not have enough electricity to power them. And, according to these Climate Alarmists, if we keep using fossil fuels, we face all sorts of terrible consequences. This means, quite bluntly, that there will not be enough EVs to replace our present demand for automobiles. This will result in much more expensive cars, and far fewer of them. As a result, other than the elite and near-elite (who will not have to do without their vehicles), the rest of us will have to seek other means of transportation.
The automobile has contributed greatly to freedom of movement for the average person. That will now cease, and our economy will grind to a halt. Just think how dependent our modern economy is on automobiles, and what would happen if we did not have them. Far more will die from a fossil fuel-free world than will die from an increase in the global temperature of two degrees.
Certainly, this is madness, unless one’s intent is to reduce the freedom of movement for the general population. It will be much easier to control a population that cannot move about freely as we have been able to do since Henry Ford, the Dodge Brothers, and others made the automobile accessible to the average person. Before that, it was more of a toy, a luxury for the very wealthy.
History is about to repeat itself, unless we put a stop to this madness.
