REP. THOMAS MASSIE: EXCLUSIVE TNA VIDEO INTERVIEW and the “One Big Beautiful Bill”
What’s not to love about President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”? Plenty, as Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), explains in a wide-ranging interview with The New American’s Christian Gomez that we posted on May 21. Representative Massie, who has been one of the staunchest constitutionalists (Freedom Index score 99 percent) in Congress since coming to the House in 2013, details many of the ugly features of the bill that he says betray the promises that he, President Trump, and Republican members of Congress made to voters in last year’s elections — promises such as slashing federal spending, cutting taxes, reducing the national debt, shrinking Big Government, and much more. However, Massie notes, House Speaker Mike Johnson and the GOP leadership have gone back to business as usual. They have caved in to the lobbyists and created a smoke-and-mirrors bill that claims to cut taxes and spending but, in reality it is front-loaded with hundreds of billions of dollars in real tax exemptions and corporate subsidies over the next five years and promisedreductions over the following five years — after the 2026 and 2028 elections, if ever!
It’s the J. Wellington Wimpy routine, for which politicians of all persuasions are notorious. If you’ve ever seen the old Popeye cartoons, you might recall Wimpy’s famous line: “I’d gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.” Of course, the ravenous burger glutton invariably welches on his comestible debts. That’s what the politicians — Republicans and Democrats — are pulling. And Popeye, the good-natured sucker, invariably yields to Wimpy’s pathetic supplications. But taxpayers are fed up with playing the Popeye role. The big question is whether there are enough members of Congress like Thomas Massie to stop this insanity before this runaway spending pushes us to the $50 trillion debt level and the consequent economic devastation it will bring. Will they say, “Sorry, Wimpy, no free burgers today. Tighten your belt”?
