Airbase Used by U.S. Forces Attacked in Iraq

According to reports, a large explosion has followed a drone attack on an airbase used by U.S. forces in Iraq.

The Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported that the attack targeted the Al-Harir military airbase located near the city Irbil, Iraq.

The base “was targeted by a booby-trapped drone, the General Counter-Terrorism Directorate in Kurdistan Region in Northern Iraq announced Friday,” KUNA reported. “In a statement, the Directorate said that the airbase located in Northern Irbil has been subjected to continuous attacks by robotic aircraft.”

The attack has been attributed to the “Iraqi Islamic Resistance” group. According to the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, groups of Islamic Resistance in Iraq are backed by Iran and are responsible for dozens of attacks “on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria as of October 30, 2023.”
